Suspect Dies after Mob Attack
In a distressing incident, one yet-to-be-identified suspect, believed to be aged between 35 and 40, met a fatal end after a confrontation with a mob in Lusaka’s Kabwata area. Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Danny Mwale, confirmed the incident.
According to Mr. Mwale, the deceased and his colleague had attacked a 28-year-old man, known as Lukonde, on 25th October, 2023, around 02:00 hours in Kabwata. The two suspects, armed with iron bars, confronted the victim as he was dropping off a friend.
They demanded money from him, and as the victim was complying, one of the suspects seized his cellular phone and attempted to flee.
According to Mr. Mwale, Lukonde, the victim, immediately raised an alarm and called for help. Members of the community responded swiftly and managed to apprehend the suspect.
The suspect was subsequently subjected to a severe beating and sustained fatal head injuries as well as a broken right leg.
Police officers, who arrived at the scene, found the suspect in an unconscious state. He was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Tragically, Mr. Mwale reported that the suspect’s life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead at 05:00 hours. The body is currently in the hospital mortuary, pending identification and a postmortem examination.
