Gov’t Praises SoftCare Zambia Over $20 Million Investment and Export Growth
Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Chipoka Mulenga, MP, has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to industrialisation and export-led growth following a tour of SoftCare Industrial Zambia Limited in the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone (LSMFEZ).
During the visit, Mr Mulenga praised the company for contributing to job creation, manufacturing growth, and Zambia’s export sector through local production of sanitary pads, baby wipes, and diapers.
SoftCare Industrial Zambia Limited, a subsidiary of Sunda International, revealed that it has invested more than USD20 million in the facility and created over 500 direct jobs, while also supporting local transporters and suppliers through its operations.
The Minister said Government remained focused on promoting value addition, industrial expansion, and increased exports as part of Zambia’s broader economic transformation agenda.
He disclosed that the Ministry would engage the management of the Lusaka South Multi-Facility Economic Zone and the Industrial Development Corporation to explore the reallocation of idle land that has remained undeveloped for more than a decade.
Mr Mulenga said the objective was to ensure land within economic zones becomes productive and supports industrial growth and employment creation.
The company informed the Minister that 40 percent of its production is exported to regional markets including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, Zimbabwe, and South Africa, while 60 percent is sold locally.
Mr Mulenga said the expansion of non-traditional exports was critical in supporting exchange rate stability and strengthening Zambia’s macroeconomic position.
He commended workers at the facility for their contribution to productivity and competitiveness, stressing that export growth depends on the commitment of employees across the production chain.
The Minister also encouraged workers to protect and value their jobs while urging management to maintain good labour practices and supportive working conditions.
Meanwhile, SoftCare Managing Director Paul Wang described the facility as one of the region’s most technologically advanced hygiene production hubs.
Mr Wang said local manufacturing was helping reduce dependence on imports, preserve foreign exchange reserves, and empower small-scale retailers and distributors across Zambia.
He added that the company contributes more than K100 million annually in taxes to support national development and continues to invest in specialised technical training for workers.
Mr Wang further called for continued collaboration with Government to protect local manufacturers from unfair competition and strengthen Zambia’s manufacturing sector.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility initiatives focused on maternal and child health, stating that improving public health remains central to its operations.
SoftCare Industrial Zambia operates under the slogan “More Care, More Love” and says it remains committed to promoting the “Made in Zambia” brand across regional and international markets.
