Zambia Basketball Set for Expansion After FIBA Donation of Modern 3×3 Facilities
The Zambia Basketball Federation (ZBF) has received a major boost following the handover of assorted 3×3 basketball equipment donated by the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) through AUSC Region 5, aimed at promoting the growth of basketball in Zambia and across Africa.
The National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) officially handed over the equipment, which includes a 3×3 basketball floor, scoreboard and auxiliary equipment, 40 basketballs for 3×3 basketball, and 250 basketballs for conventional basketball.
The handover ceremony was attended by NSCZ Chief Executive Officer Sombwa Mususa, ZBF President Maziko Phiri, ZBF General Secretary Rodrick Njobvu, and Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts Senior Sports Officer Nancy Nyundo, among other officials.
Mr Mususa expressed gratitude to Government and the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts for creating an enabling environment for sporting disciplines to grow.
He also thanked FIBA and AUSC Region 5 for the donation, noting that the equipment will significantly enhance the development of 3×3 basketball in the country.
He urged the Zambia Basketball Federation to safeguard the equipment and ensure it is effectively utilised for the benefit of athletes, while also encouraging the expansion of 3×3 basketball to all ten provinces of Zambia.
ZBF President Maziko Phiri welcomed the donation, describing it as a significant milestone that will help increase participation and development of 3×3 basketball nationwide.
ZBF General Secretary Rodrick Njobvu also expressed appreciation to FIBA and AUSC Region 5 for their continued support and provision of modern equipment.
Speaking on behalf of players, basketballer Thomas Mambwe said the sport is not only a game but also a source of livelihood for many young people.
He thanked Government and cooperating partners, noting that the equipment will help athletes develop their skills and access greater opportunities in the sport.
