ZAMCOM, Tobacco Board Partner to Strengthen Media and Communication in Tobacco Sector

The Zambia Institute of Mass Communication Educational Trust has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tobacco Board of Zambia aimed at enhancing media and communication capacities within Zambia’s tobacco industry.

The partnership will focus on training workshops, communication consultancy, broadcasting and media production, as well as printing and branding services to improve information dissemination across the sector.

Both institutions acknowledged the importance of tobacco as a key non-traditional export crop, contributing significantly to Zambia’s agricultural output and economic growth. They noted that effective communication is essential to fully realise the value of the tobacco industry.

The collaboration is expected to strengthen storytelling around the tobacco value chain, highlighting its impact on farmers, traders, processors and the broader economy through export earnings.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will also support efforts to achieve a targeted production of 80 million kilogrammes of tobacco during the 2025–2026 marketing season, while promoting structured communication strategies ranging from farmer engagement to policy communication and public awareness.

The partnership further seeks to promote excellence in media and communication practices among tobacco stakeholders and encourage collaboration across industries.

ZAMCOM said the initiative reflects a shared commitment to improving communication standards and supporting the growth and sustainability of Zambia’s tobacco sector.
