K710 Salary Increment for Local Authorities Workers Nationwide
The Government of the Republic of Zambia has awarded a K710 across-the-board salary increment to unionised Local Authorities employees, alongside improved service allowances, following the successful conclusion of collective bargaining negotiations for the 2026 period.
The agreement was signed between Government and representatives of the Zambia United Local Authorities Workers Union (ZULAWU) and the Fire Services Union of Zambia (FIRESUZ), covering employees in Divisions II, III and IV across all 116 Local Authorities in the country.
Announcing the development, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary (Technical Services), Mr Nicholas Phiri, who led the Government negotiating team, said the agreement will run from January to December 2026.
He said the salary adjustment followed in-depth discussions and reflected a shared commitment between Government and labour representatives to improve working conditions for local authority staff.
“This agreement represents in-depth discussion, good faith bargaining, and a shared commitment that gives sustainability and clarity to both parties,” Mr Phiri said.
He noted that the K710 increment is intended to enhance employee morale, improve retention, and boost productivity within local authorities, which play a central role in public service delivery across the country.
Mr Phiri reaffirmed Government’s commitment to improving the welfare of public service workers, stating that the increment had been granted despite prevailing economic challenges.
He further called on local authority employees to enhance their performance in delivering essential services to communities, including the effective implementation of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) programmes.
The Permanent Secretary stressed that strengthened service delivery at local level remains critical to improving livelihoods and supporting national development goals.
