Zambia’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, His Excellency Mr Albert Muchanga, has officially presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Mr Taye Atske Selassie, President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, at the Presidential Palace in Addis Ababa.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Muchanga highlighted the long-standing relations between Zambia and Ethiopia, noting that both countries share numerous mutual interests.
He highlighted the importance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, which he said provides a strong foundation for expanding cooperation in trade and sustainable development.
Speaking on his mission in Ethiopia, Ambassador Muchanga said he aims to further strengthen bilateral ties, with a focus on key sectors such as agriculture, mining, trade, information and communications technology (ICT), and aviation. He emphasised that closer collaboration in these areas would benefit both nations.
Addressing journalists after the ceremony, the Ambassador stressed that African countries must actively shape the emerging global order. He urged the continent to work together to protect its interests, strengthen unity, and enhance resilience.
He also called for the establishment of an African Customs Union, which would allow African nations to trade tariff-free, boost intra-continental commerce, create jobs, encourage local production, and reduce reliance on external markets.
President Selassie welcomed Ambassador Muchanga and reaffirmed Ethiopia’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Zambia. He also expressed support for Africa’s regional integration agenda and pledged to build on the cordial relations between the two nations.
