Zambian Ambassador Concludes Benguela Visit with Tour of Lobito Oil Refinery
Zambia’s Ambassador to Angola, His Excellency Rev. Dr Elias Munshya, has concluded an official working visit to Benguela Province with a technical tour of the Lobito Oil Refinery, a flagship energy infrastructure project under the Lobito Corridor framework.
The visit, conducted on Wednesday, 14 January 2026, marked the final engagement of the Ambassador’s programme in Benguela, which focused on strengthening strategic infrastructure links and economic cooperation between Zambia and Angola.
During the tour, Ambassador Munshya was received by the refinery’s project leadership and technical team, who briefed him on the scope, progress and phased implementation of the project.
The Lobito Oil Refinery is expected to have a processing capacity of 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day and will include a marine terminal, storage facilities, pipeline systems and an integrated logistics network to support domestic supply and regional exports.
The Ambassador welcomed the progress achieved and highlighted the project’s strategic importance to regional energy security, industrial development and trade integration.
He noted that the refinery presents a valuable opportunity for Zambia to access refined petroleum products from a closer and more reliable source, with potential connectivity through rail, pipeline and multimodal transport solutions linked to the Lobito Corridor.
Ambassador Munshya reaffirmed Zambia’s interest in continued engagement with the Angolan Government and project partners, with a view to exploring practical arrangements that would enable Zambia to participate as a regional market for refined petroleum products once the refinery becomes operational.
The Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Angola commended the Government of Angola and its partners for the scale and ambition of the Lobito Oil Refinery project and expressed optimism that sustained collaboration would advance shared regional development and economic integration goals.
