Guangzhou Hosts Zambia’s SCO Trade Platform to Unlock Investment Opportunities

Zambia has officially launched the China–Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Economic and Trade Exchange Center, Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Development Platform in Guangzhou, marking a major step in deepening economic and trade cooperation between Zambia and the SCO region.

The launch was officiated by His Excellency Mr Ivan Zyuulu, Zambia’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China. It follows the signing of a Cooperation Agreement between the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) and the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Development Committee of the China–SCO Economic and Trade Exchange Center on 1 October 2025, building on outcomes from the 2025 SCO Summit of Heads of State held in Tianjin from 31 August to 1 September 2025.

Mr Wang Rui Cai, Director of the China–SCO Economic and Trade Exchange Center, guided a tour of the facility and pledged institutional support, office space, and professional services to promote Zambian priority projects.

The Zambia Major Project Cooperation and Exchange Center, based in Guangzhou’s Huadu District, will serve as a strategic platform to mobilise enterprises from the Greater Bay Area and the wider SCO region to explore investment and trade opportunities in Zambia.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to operationalising the Cooperation Agreement through practical and results-oriented actions.

During his visit, Ambassador Zyuulu also paid a courtesy call on Mr Ma Wenfeng, Director General of the Foreign Affairs Office of Guangdong Province, highlighting Zambia’s interest in expanding cooperation in industrialisation, value addition, and infrastructure development.

He further emphasised the strategic role of the Zambian Consulate General in Guangzhou as a platform for sustained engagement and partnership.

Mr Ma welcomed the strengthened Zambia–Guangdong ties and highlighted the importance of deepening economic and trade relations, investment, industrial development, and people-to-people exchanges between the two regions.

The launch of this platform is expected to enhance bilateral trade, attract investment, and strengthen economic collaboration between Zambia and China, positioning both partners for long-term mutual growth.
