Zambia Updates Nation on Energy Projects
The Ministry of Energy has announced significant progress in Zambia’s ongoing energy generation projects, reaffirming Government’s commitment to stabilising the country’s electricity supply and reducing the impact of load shedding.
In a statement issued on 30th November 2025, Minister of Energy Mr Makozo Chikote said the Government is accelerating a diverse pipeline of projects, including green city initiatives, rooftop solar installations, utility-scale renewable plants and thermal (coal) energy developments.
According to the Ministry, 347MW of new generation capacity has already been completed. Key projects include the 100MW Chisamba Solar PV Plant, the 25MW Mailo Solar PV Plant in Serenje, and a range of installations under the Net-Metering initiative contributing a combined 14.7MW.
A further 29 public and privately led projects, with a total capacity of 2,510MW, are currently under construction and scheduled for commissioning between 2025 and 2026. Among these are the ZESCO Mansa Solar PV Project (50MW), Maamba Phase II (300MW), and CEC’s Itimpi II (136MW).
The Ministry has published a detailed project list on its official website and social media platforms to give the public full insight into ongoing efforts to resolve the energy shortage.
Mr Chikote acknowledged the public’s concerns over current load shedding and assured citizens that long-term solutions are being implemented.
He expressed confidence that once the pipeline projects are completed, Zambia will experience improved electricity stability, enhanced energy security, and reduced power interruptions.
He further noted that investor interest in Zambia’s energy sector continues to grow, signalling increased support for bridging the current electricity gap.
The Ministry emphasised its commitment to transparent communication and sustained infrastructure development to ensure reliable power supply for households, businesses, and industries across the country.
