ZCSA Sets Standards in Consumer Safety While Inspiring Young Athletes

The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that only safe and quality products reach consumers.

Speaking at the official closing and award ceremony of the first edition of the ZCSA National Tennis Championship, held from 2–5 October 2025 at Ndola Tennis Club, ZCSA Director of Corporate Services, Maikisa Ilukena, highlighted the Agency’s strengthened efforts in border monitoring, market inspections, routine factory audits, stakeholder engagement, enforcement, and public education.

Mr Ilukena emphasised ZCSA’s readiness to support producers of products covered by compulsory standards, guiding them to comply with regulatory requirements to access domestic and international markets.

He urged businesses to engage with ZCSA at the planning stage of production to benefit from guidance on good manufacturing practices.

“This approach improves product safety, enhances compliance with regulations, and increases market access both locally and abroad,” he said.

He added that ZCSA’s sponsorship of the tournament reflects its commitment to national development and nation-building through sport, while also providing a structured and safe environment for young athletes to thrive.

Mr Ilukena highlighted the risks posed by unregulated alcoholic beverages and welcomed initiatives that involve youth in constructive activities.

Zambia Tennis Association (ZTA) President Lighton Musonda expressed gratitude for ZCSA’s support, noting that the tournament brought together the nation’s top talent and would inspire young players to reach their potential. Men’s Singles winner Edgar Kazembe also praised tennis for helping young people steer clear of substance and alcohol abuse.
