Proflight Zambia Launches First-Ever Jet Service on Lusaka–Kasama Route
Proflight Zambia has made aviation history with the launch of its inaugural jet service between Lusaka and Kasama, deploying a 50-seat Bombardier CRJ-200 aircraft on the route for the very first time.
The new service marks a significant step in enhancing air connectivity to Northern Province, reducing travel time and boosting opportunities for business, tourism and investment.
On board the maiden flight was Northern Province Minister, Hon. Leonard Boyd Mbao, who welcomed the development as a sign of Proflight Zambia’s long-term commitment to regional growth. “Even before we had a standard airport, Proflight Zambia were already flying to Kasama. Now, with this modern airport, they are the first to introduce a jet service – a major milestone. We look forward to continuing this partnership,” he said.
Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba people also praised the airline’s initiative, stressing its role in attracting investors. “Air travel reduces many challenges. It enables people to reach destinations faster and conduct business efficiently. With more passengers flying to Kasama, this is a gateway to development and investment,” he said.
Northern Province Judge in Charge, Justice Mathew Zulu, highlighted the convenience the new service brings. “This connectivity makes it easier for me to attend meetings and conferences in Lusaka without losing valuable time on the road. It is a service that enhances both efficiency and productivity,” he noted.
Proflight Zambia’s Director of Flight Operations, Captain Josias Walubita, described the service as a milestone in the airline’s mission to connect communities. “We are very excited to operate the CRJ jet on this route. Our commitment is to provide world-class air services while delivering comfort and convenience for our passengers,” he said.
The CRJ-200 will operate every Tuesday from late September 2025, with an additional Thursday service introduced in November. Sunday flights will continue to operate using the Jetstream 41, with expanded capacity following the availability of jet fuel in Kasama.
Beyond connectivity, the new service will also support Northern Province’s tourism, home to iconic attractions such as Kalambo Falls, Chishimba Falls and Lake Tanganyika. Passengers will also enjoy a taste of local heritage with Kasama Coffee served on board.
With this launch, Proflight Zambia strengthens its role as the nation’s leading domestic carrier, committed to safe, reliable and efficient travel while promoting regional development.
