Zambia, Ethiopia Celebrate Enduring Ties at Ethiopian New Year Commemoration

Zambia joined Ethiopia in celebrating the Ethiopian New Year (2018) in Lusaka, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Mulambo Haimbe, S.C., M.P., gracing the occasion on Saturday at the invitation of His Excellency Mr Rashid Mohammed, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Zambia.

Representing President Hakainde Hichilema, Hon. Haimbe extended Zambia’s warmest wishes of peace, prosperity, and renewed strength to the Government and people of Ethiopia.

He hailed the cordial relations between the two nations, underpinned by shared history, culture and mutual aspirations.

The Minister commended Ethiopia’s achievements in agriculture and mining, describing them as testimony to the country’s contribution to Africa’s transformation and its pursuit of middle-income status.

He further cited the partnership between Zambia Airways and Ethiopian Airlines as a shining example of bilateral cooperation driving economic development.

Hon. Haimbe also welcomed the nomination of Ms Getenesh Addis Awoke as Ethiopia’s Honorary Consul to Zambia, while expressing gratitude to the Ethiopian community for their role in strengthening ties and contributing to Zambia’s socio-economic progress.

Ambassador Mohammed reaffirmed the more than 60 years of bilateral relations, highlighting aviation cooperation as a key milestone in fostering prosperity between the two countries.

He assured Ethiopia’s continued commitment to deepen friendship and collaboration with Zambia for mutual benefit.
