Stormers Reunite with Adidas and Unveil New Logo Ahead of URC Opener
The Stormers have officially reunited with Adidas as their kit sponsor and unveiled a new team logo, signalling a fresh chapter for the franchise. The launch event, held on Tuesday, introduced home and away jerseys prominently featuring Adidas’ iconic three stripes.
The rebrand has sparked mixed reactions among supporters, with some fans expressing disappointment over the departure from the previous logo, which had been in use for 20–25 years.
Stormers veterans Deon Fourie and Evan Roos have urged fans to embrace the change. Fourie said: “It’s normal to get backlash from the public regarding the logo. There is always backlash with change, but my motto and ethos for the union remain… we want to make Cape Town smile.”
He added: “With the new logo, the hoops and sponsors, we’re trying to bring everyone together, be inclusive and look at our heritage. It’s important we start strong. The past two seasons, we didn’t start well and had to claw our way back. This time, we want to hit the ground running, and what better way than against Leinster?”
Roos echoed the sentiment: “I am a big fan. Change is inevitable and I don’t think it’s a bad thing. We shouldn’t forget our heritage and tradition, which has been laid out by our coaches and players from this group. We need to embrace change and move forward.”
Fourie also reflected on the significance of the Adidas reunion: “It’s exciting times. We have corporates and sponsors back, which probably puts more pressure on us to perform. We need to perform so the supporters and crowd know we are the team.”
Despite the initial mixed response, the Stormers’ management and players remain confident that the new brand identity will win over the wider fanbase. The team now prepares for a challenging United Rugby Championship (URC) season opener against reigning champions Leinster at home, aiming to start the campaign strongly.
