BuyZed Urges Support for Local Economy Through Strategic Procurement

The BuyZed Campaign has urged hotels, lodges, and government institutions across Zambia to prioritize local procurement, with a specific focus on Kawambwa Tea, Zambia’s national tea brand.

The renewed call aligns with President Hakainde Hichilema’s policy on positive discrimination in procurement, which encourages the prioritization of locally produced goods and services to stimulate domestic economic growth.

BuyZed Founder Evans Kazonga Ng’oma emphasized that supporting Kawambwa Tea is more than just a business decision, it’s an act of national responsibility.

He called on hospitality providers to stock Kawambwa Tea as a first choice, citing its wide range of flavors that appeal to diverse consumer preferences.

“There is no excuse not to choose local. Every packet of Kawambwa Tea bought keeps money within our borders and strengthens our economy,” he said.

Ng’oma also extended the appeal to procurement officers in government institutions, reminding them of President Hichilema’s directive to uplift local industries through strategic purchasing.

He stressed that buying local products like Kawambwa Tea directly contributes to job creation, local investment, and the broader vision of a self-reliant Zambia.

The BuyZed Campaign highlighted several benefits of local procurement, including economic stimulation, the promotion of national pride, and the cultivation of a self-sustaining market. The campaign views this approach as essential to building a resilient economy that places Zambian producers at the center of national development.

Ng’oma concluded by calling for collective action from both the private and public sectors.

“By choosing Kawambwa Tea, we are choosing Zambia. Let’s make strategic procurement a shared national priority and take pride in what we produce as a nation,” he said.
