FQM Empowers 27 Zambian SMEs at Trade Fair, Boosting Local Supply Chain Resilience
First Quantum Minerals (FQM) has reaffirmed its commitment to Zambia’s economic transformation by sponsoring 27 local Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to exhibit at the 2025 Zambia International Trade Fair in Ndola.
The support aligns with the Government’s push for enhanced local content and business resilience under the event’s theme: “Enhancing Business Resilience through Innovation and Trade.”
FQM’s initiative is part of its wider supplier development programme aimed at strengthening Zambian businesses in the mining value chain. The programme offers mentorship, financial access, skills development, and structured enterprise support to SMEs.
Speaking during the official opening of the fair, FQM Country Manager Dr. Godwin Beene emphasized the company’s long-term vision of inclusive economic growth.
“Building local capacity is not just good for the community—it’s good business. We believe in Zambians supplying Zambian mines,” Dr. Beene said.
He also highlighted the importance of partnerships in enabling SME growth through training and access to markets.
“We are investing in a thriving ecosystem of competitive Zambian businesses,” he added.
Minister of Finance and National Planning Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane commended the resilience of the private sector, stating that Government remains committed to fostering an environment that allows businesses to thrive.
“The innovation has been to encourage the private sector to lead while the government provides the enabling conditions,” he noted.
FQM’s presence at the Trade Fair illustrates the role of strategic corporate involvement in driving national development and unlocking opportunities for local entrepreneurs within the mining industry.
