Zambian Government Responds to Allegations of Corruption
In a press statement issued today, Hon. Chushi Kasanda, the Minister of Information and Media and Chief Government Spokesperson, strongly refuted the recent allegations of corruption made by Fred M’membe, the leader of the Socialist Party. The government expressed its objection to M’membe’s insinuation that the current fight against corruption is driven by hypocrisy and vengeance.
While the government welcomes constructive criticism aimed at improving governance and eliminating corruption, it emphasizes the need for such discussions to be based on facts and supported by credible evidence. The claims made by Dr. M’membe questioning the sincerity of the government in fighting corruption are deemed without merit and lacking substantive evidence. The government considers it irresponsible and misleading to make sweeping statements about an entire government based on unfounded allegations.
The government highlighted its commitment to fighting corruption and its implementation of comprehensive measures to strengthen anti-corruption institutions, enhance transparency in public procurement processes, and foster a culture of accountability across all sectors. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has investigated numerous cases and achieved several convictions as a result of these efforts.
Under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, the New Dawn Government remains steadfast in upholding the highest standards of governance and accountability. The fight against corruption is a top priority, and the government is taking transparent and systematic steps to address this issue.
The government assured the Zambian people that every allegation of corruption would be thoroughly investigated, and those found guilty would face legal consequences, regardless of their political affiliations.
Additionally, the government urged the Zambian people to remain vigilant against false narratives and unsubstantiated claims. It reiterated its determination to uphold the highest ethical standards and work tirelessly to deliver on its promises to the people.
