Sonny Zulu Inspires Over 700 Students at University of Lusaka Career Fair
Standard Chartered Bank Zambia CEO and Managing Director, Sonny Zulu, delivered an inspiring keynote address to more than 700 students at the 2025 Career Fair hosted by the University of Lusaka’s School of Business, Economics, and Management.
The event, themed “Navigating the Modern Job Market: Insights from Industry Leaders,” provided critical career guidance to young Zambians preparing to enter the workforce.
Mr. Zulu underscored the transformative role of youth in shaping the future, urging students to embrace self-awareness and purpose-driven decision-making. “You are the architects of the future. Each one of you has the power to shape not only your own destiny but also that of your family, your communities, our nation, and the world at large,” he stated.
His speech resonated deeply with students, emphasizing that success extends beyond academic achievement. Challenging the audience with thought-provoking questions, he asked, “Who are you? What is your purpose?” He stressed that a strong sense of identity serves as the foundation for building a meaningful and fulfilling career.
Addressing the rapid changes in the global job market, Mr. Zulu encouraged students to take charge of their professional journeys. “The world is changing faster than ever imagined, and you are the key. The skills you develop, the knowledge you acquire, and the passion you nurture today will drive the next wave of innovation. Do not just adapt to the future – define it,” he said.
His inspiring address, coupled with insights from other distinguished industry leaders during panel discussions, left students motivated and equipped with practical strategies for career success. The event reinforced the importance of industry-academic collaboration in preparing graduates for real-world opportunities.
Standard Chartered Bank remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering young people through initiatives such as Futuremakers, which supports youth in learning, earning, and growing. In line with this mission, the bank launched RISE/E (Ready for Inclusive Sustainable Employment and Entrepreneurship) in 2024, an economic empowerment programme designed to develop employable skills and entrepreneurial support for Zambian youth.
With a special focus on marginalized groups, including women and people living with disabilities, the bank has pledged ZMW 14 million to RISE/E over the next three years.
Mr. Zulu’s powerful message serves as a call to action for Zambia’s youth to embrace their potential, take charge of their futures, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
