President Hichilema Attends High-Level Summit on Lobito Trans-Africa Corridor
President Hakainde Hichilema attended a major summit in Lobito, Angola, focused on the development of the Lobito Trans-Africa Corridor. The event, hosted by Angolan President João Lourenço and supported by the US government, highlighted plans to boost regional infrastructure.
During the summit, US President Joe Biden announced $600 million in new funding for projects along the corridor. This initiative will improve transportation, connect regional markets, and promote economic growth across Zambia, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The corridor will also include a rail line linking Angola to Zambia, expected to create jobs, lower transport costs, and support sustainable development.
President Hichilema held talks with President Biden about strengthening Zambia-US ties. Key discussions included Zambia’s economic growth, democratic progress, and the need for global debt reforms to free up resources for development.
President Hichilema reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to working with Angola, the DRC, Tanzania, the US, and other partners to make this vision a reality.
After the summit, President Hichilema returned to Lusaka.
