Traditional leaders from Mkushi’s Chief Chitina and Mimosa Resources have lauded First Quantum Minerals’ (FQM) Kansanshi Mine in Solwezi for its exemplary sustainable mining practices.

Mimosa Resources Stakeholder Engagement Manager, Dr. Ian Nzali Banda, emphasized the project’s focus on responsible mining through its partnership with FQM. He highlighted Kansanshi’s innovations in water recycling and its 4,000-hectare game sanctuary as proof of sustainable practices.

Chief Chitina commended FQM’s efforts, noting how initiatives like tree planting and wildlife conservation demonstrated that mining can coexist with nature. He expressed optimism about replicating these practices in Mkushi to boost local development.

FQM’s Kansanshi Mining Agriculture and Wildlife Coordinator, Dr. Jackson Katampi, addressed environmental concerns, showcasing measures like biodiversity conservation and rigorous air and water quality monitoring, which reassured stakeholders.
