FQM Bolsters Economic Empowerment with Over K3.4M in Grants to Solwezi Cooperatives

First Quantum Minerals (FQM), through Kansanshi Mining, has disbursed more than K3.4 million in grants to 13 cooperatives under the Tujipamo Multi-Purpose Project, reaffirming its commitment to local economic development.

Launched in 2022, the project aims to empower small businesses and promote sustainable community growth. The grants will fuel business activities for cooperatives, fostering long-term socio-economic resilience.

Speaking at the ceremony, North-Western Province Permanent Secretary Colonel Grandson Katambi (Rtd) praised FQM for its collaboration with the government to uplift local communities. He urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds, emphasizing their potential to transform lives.

“These grants represent hope for your families and communities. Let’s ensure they create meaningful, lasting change,” he said.

Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa echoed the sentiment, lauding FQM’s efforts as complementary to government initiatives like the Constituency Development Fund (CDF). He emphasized the need for continued partnerships to sustain community-centric development.

Kansanshi Mining Commercial Manager Stuart Griffiths highlighted FQM’s rigorous grant allocation process. “Five high-performing cooperatives will receive over K382,000 each, while the others will receive half, depending on progress toward performance targets,” he explained.

Chief Kapijimpanga of Solwezi District also commended FQM, urging beneficiaries to adhere to their proposals and honor their commitments.

With over K6 million invested in local enterprises this year, FQM continues to strengthen the economic fabric of North-Western Province, driving a sustainable future for Zambia.
