Govt to Recruit 4,200 Teachers in 2024
The Government of Zambia has announced plans to recruit 4,200 teachers in 2024 as part of its commitment to improving education standards and reducing the pupil-teacher ratio.
The Honourable Minister of Education disclosed this during a press briefing attended by key stakeholders and members of the press.
This recruitment drive will increase the total number of teachers hired since the United Party for National Development (UPND) assumed office to a record 41,422.
This aligns with the UPND manifesto’s goals of addressing classroom overcrowding, particularly after the introduction of free education, and enhancing learning outcomes in schools.
Unlike previous recruitment exercises, the ministry will not advertise new positions but will instead use the existing database of applicants. The minister assured the public of a transparent and objective validation process to select eligible candidates.
Reiterating the government’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption, the minister warned against bribery, urging unemployed teachers to report any attempts by officials to solicit payments in exchange for recruitment, transfers, or promotions.
“Any officer found engaging in corrupt practices will face severe consequences,” the minister stressed, calling for ethical conduct from both officials and prospective teachers.
