Zambia’s Technology Minister Advocates for Investment Partnerships at OECD in Paris

Zambia’s Minister of Technology and Science, Honourable Felix Mutati, addressed the OECD’s high-level Investment and Sustainability meeting, advocating for mutual investment partnerships to propel sustainable growth.

Speaking under the theme “Industrial Policies: An Opportunity or Risk for Boosting Sustainable Investment,” Minister Mutati called for a new era of partnerships that respect Zambia’s resources and offer shared benefits.

Emphasizing Zambia’s shift from aid-dependence to self-reliance, Mutati outlined a vision focused on leveraging digital transformation and tackling climate challenges through private sector collaboration.

He highlighted recent policy measures, including debt restructuring, legal reforms, and pro-investment incentives that are already attracting substantial private investment.

Key achievements include a $1.5 billion investment in a nickel mine, telecom infrastructure advances that raised Zambia’s connectivity to neighboring countries, and an educational reform that introduced digital literacy to 2 million children.

Moreover, in response to climate change, Zambia has created opportunities in renewable energy, with reforms in the energy sector allowing independent power producers to operate with minimal delays.

The panel discussion also featured Zambia Development Agency Director Chimuka Nketani, who emphasized Zambia’s strategic priorities in energy, agriculture, and electric vehicle battery production.

He detailed reforms aimed at swiftly executing power agreements and promoting climate-resilient agricultural practices.

This is in a statement issued by Naomi Mweemba, First Secretary Press, Embassy of Zambia, Paris.
