FQM Champions Conservation Careers at Zambia Fair
First Quantum Minerals (FQM) demonstrated its commitment to sustainable development and conservation careers at the 2024 Zambia Conservation Careers Fair.
FQM’s Government Relations Superintendent, Winnie Solopi Kakunta, emphasized the company’s wide-ranging employment opportunities, including conservation farming, healthcare, and community development.
“FQM’s mining operations extend beyond engineering to include community engagement and environmental stewardship, showcasing our commitment to Zambia’s growth,” Ms Kakunta stated.
Dr. David Squarre, FQM Trident’s Wildlife and Forestry Programme Lead, highlighted the importance of inspiring young conservationists, integrating biodiversity conservation with mining activities, and promoting environmental protection alongside economic development.
The fair connected students, professionals, and industry leaders, offering insights into diverse conservation careers. Ndanji Simwanda, a student attendee, praised the event for expanding her understanding of how her skills could contribute to conservation efforts.
