Ministry of Education and DMI St. Eugene University Forge Partnership to Upgrade Teachers’ Qualifications

Today August 1st, 2024, the Ministry of Education and DMI St. Eugene University signed a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing the qualifications of approximately 4,000 teachers in the fields of sciences and Information and Communications Technology (ICT). 

The agreement marks a significant step towards strengthening the capacity of educators and expanding the focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects across Zambia.

At the signing ceremony held in Lusaka, Mr. Joel Kamoko, Permanent Secretary for Education Services, emphasized the MoU’s role in building teacher capacity and increasing the number of qualified educators in STEM disciplines. 

“This MoU represents a substantial advancement in our efforts to improve educational outcomes by fostering a robust teaching environment that supports innovation and research,” Mr. Kamoko stated.

The partnership aims to create an enabling environment for students to excel in STEM subjects by equipping teachers with advanced qualifications and modern teaching practices. 

Mr. Kamoko highlighted the MoU’s potential to instill a culture of innovation within the education system, thereby making it more dynamic and responsive to contemporary educational needs.

Dr. Thomson Ananth, Director of International Operations at DMI St. Eugene University, noted that the MoU reflects a shared vision and commitment to investing in teacher development. 

“By upgrading teachers’ qualifications, we ensure that educators are well-prepared to address the evolving demands of modern education,” Dr. Ananth explained.

Under the agreement, costs associated with upgrading teachers’ qualifications will be shared among the Ministry of Education, DMI St. Eugene University, and participating teachers.
