Malawi Govt Plans to Recruit 10,000 Police Officers to Enhance Security
The Malawi government has announced a strategic plan to recruit 10,000 police officers to bolster the nation’s security. Minister of Homeland Security Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma revealed this initiative during the graduation ceremony of over 850 new police recruits at the Limbe Police Training School.
Minister Ng’oma emphasized that strengthening security is crucial as the country prepares for the 2025 general elections.
He highlighted that Malawi’s growing population necessitates an increase in the number of police officers to ensure public safety and order.
Ng’oma also mentioned the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of police officers through the construction of additional housing.
“Plans are underway to significantly increase funding for our security in the coming financial year. Currently, the police force numbers over 19,000, and we aim to recruit and train at least 10,000 more officers in the coming years,” he stated.
The Deputy Inspector General of the Malawi Police Service, Happy Mkandawire, encouraged the new recruits to serve with patriotism and professionalism.
Similar graduation ceremonies were held at Mtakataka and Mulangeni police training schools, bringing the total number of new recruits in 2024 to over 1,990.
