Burial of Late Malawian Vice President Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima Set for 17th June 2024
Minister of Information and Digitalisation, Moses Kunkuyu Kalongashawa, has announced that the burial of the late Vice President Dr Saulos Klaus Chilima will take place on Monday, 17th June, at Nsipe in Ntcheu.
The late Vice President will lie in state at the Official Residence of the Vice President in Area 12, Lilongwe, on Friday, 14th June, and Saturday, 15th June 2024.
During a press briefing at Capital Hill, Kunkuyu detailed the arrangements, stating that the body will be collected from the mortuary on Friday.
It will then be taken to St. Patrick’s Catholic Parish in Area 18 for a mass. After the service, the body will be transported to the Official Residence of the Vice President in Area 12.
A public ceremony will be held on Sunday at Civo Stadium, after which the body will be taken to Ntcheu for burial.
Additionally, Kunkuyu announced that President Lazarus Chakwera has directed that the funeral of former First Lady, Madame Shanil Dzimbiri, be conducted with full military honours.
In other announcements, Kunkuyu shared that the late Abdul Lapukeni was buried today in his home village in Mangochi, in accordance with Islamic rites.
The President was represented at the burial by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nancy Tembo, Minister of Energy, Ibrahim Matola, and Deputy Minister of Health, Halima Daudi.
The Minister disclosed that autopsies will be carried out by private practitioners with financial support from the government.
He also urged Malawians to refrain from sharing graphic and sensitive material related to the tragedy on media platforms.
