Canadian High Commissioner Encourages Increased Female Participation in Zambian Peacekeeping Missions
The Canadian High Commissioner to Zambia, His Excellency Kyle Nunas, has called upon the Zambia Police Service to enhance the involvement of female officers in peacekeeping missions.
His Excellency Nunas emphasised that this move would bolster the global image of the Police Service concerning gender equality.
During his courtesy call on the Inspector General of Police, Graphel Musamba, at the Police Headquarters in Lusaka, Mr. Nunas underscored the significance of the ongoing Elsie Initiative project.
This initiative, which began in 2019, aims to facilitate the meaningful participation of female officers in United Nations peacekeeping operations by identifying and addressing barriers that prevent their involvement.
Mr. Musamba, represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Administration, Alita Mbahwe, expressed gratitude for the continued support from the Canadian government.
He highlighted that the Zambia Police Service currently has 45 per cent of its peacekeeping officers comprised of women, demonstrating a commendable effort towards gender inclusion.
