Police Investigate Murder of Aron Katongo Found Dumped Near Makeni Seedlings Limited
The Makeni Police Station has launched a thorough investigation into the tragic murder of Aron Katongo, whose body was discovered near Makeni Seedlings Limited on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
The alarm was raised by a concerned citizen, aged 62, residing in George Compound, who stumbled upon the lifeless body while passing along 70/70 Road.
The victim, a male in his early 30s, was found with a severe cut to the stomach, with intestines protruding, indicating a violent and gruesome death. Authorities suspect the body was dumped there the previous night due to its relatively fresh condition.
Upon receiving the tip-off, police officers swiftly responded to the scene, where they found Katongo’s body lying in the grass beside the road.
The deceased, described as light-skinned, approximately 1.6 meters tall, was clothed in a pink golf T-shirt, black ripped jeans, and a single grey and black Jordan sneaker.
His identity was confirmed by relatives and the body was transferred to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary for further examination and identification.
Meanwhile, Chilanga Police Station received a report of an abandoned vehicle, a silver Toyota Runx with registration number BAK 5204, on the same day of the murder.
The vehicle was spotted by a concerned student at ZAMIM in Chilanga, who noticed it parked near the institution at 07:00 hours and later observed it still stationary around 22:00 hours.
Upon investigation, police found the car unlocked with its stereo missing, along with a driving license bearing Aron Katongo’s name and a house sale letter for a property in Kanyama Compound.
Rae Hamoonga, Police Public Relations Officer, stated that investigations are ongoing and appealed to the public for any information related to the case.
Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the inquiry to bring the perpetrators to justice.
The community remains shocked and saddened by the brutal murder of Aron Katongo, and local residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
