Dr. Situmbeko Musokotwane, the Finance and National Planning Minister of Zambia, has spearheaded a high-level delegation to the 2024 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, currently underway in Nairobi, Kenya.
Joined by esteemed counterparts including Secretary to the Treasury Mr. Felix Nkulukusa and Bank of Zambia Deputy Governor – Operations, Dr. Francis Chipimo, the delegation aims to leverage networking opportunities and promote investments in Zambia.
The theme of this year’s AfDB Group Annual Meetings, encompassing the 59th Annual Assembly of the African Development Bank and the 50th meeting of the African Development Fund, revolves around “Africa’s Transformation, the African Development Bank Group, and the reform of the Global Financial Architecture.”
Dr. Musokotwane has charged his team with a robust mandate to not only participate in scheduled sessions but also to actively engage with potential investors.
Emphasizing Zambia’s investment potential in key sectors such as mining, agriculture, green economy, tourism, and infrastructure development, the Minister envisions job creation and wealth generation as pivotal outcomes of strategic investments.
“We are here to learn, share experiences, explore opportunities, and benchmark,” Dr. Musokotwane remarked, underlining Zambia’s commitment to fostering a conducive business environment.
He stressed the importance of simplifying bureaucratic procedures to attract and retain investor interest, ensuring mutual benefits for both investors and the nation.
In addition to formal meetings with AfDB Group leaders including President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina and various Vice Presidents, the Zambian delegation will engage in targeted bilateral discussions with ministerial delegations from Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, and the United States Treasury.
These engagements will facilitate discussions on developmental matters of mutual interest and strengthen partnerships.
Furthermore, the delegation will participate in knowledge-sharing events on continental and global affairs, fostering collaboration and innovation towards sustainable development goals.
