ZamStats to Release Key Economic and Agricultural Data on 24 March
The Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) has announced that it will release two significant statistical reports on 24 March 2026: the preliminary findings of the 2025 Economic Establishment Census (EEC) and key findings from the 2024/2025 Post Harvest Survey.
The announcement was made by Acting Statistician General, Sheila S. Mudenda, during a press briefing held on 16 March 2026 at ZamStats Headquarters in Lusaka.
Mrs Mudenda emphasised that the preliminary results of the 2025 EEC mark a critical milestone in Zambia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rebasing process. She explained that the census will help establish a comprehensive, up-to-date and credible Statistical Business Register, providing a clearer picture of the country’s economic structure, sectoral distribution and composition of activities.
She noted that the data will also serve as a vital sampling frame for future business and economic surveys, strengthening the quality and reliability of national statistics.
“The importance of the EEC cannot be overstated, as it provides a comprehensive list of all business operations in the Zambian economic territory, leading to the compilation of a Statistical Business Register, which is essential for establishment-based surveys, national accounts compilation, business profiling and broader economic analysis,” she said.
Mrs Mudenda further disclosed that the final results of the EEC are expected in the second quarter of 2026. These will be enhanced through integration with administrative data from key institutions, including the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA), Patents and Companies Registration Agency (PACRA), Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA), and the Bank of Zambia (BoZ).
She explained that this phased approach enables ZamStats to release timely preliminary findings while ensuring that the final results are robust and enriched through administrative data integration.
Mrs Mudenda also highlighted that the 2025 EEC will be followed by the Annual Enterprise Survey in the second quarter of 2026, further supporting the GDP rebasing process.
She stressed that the timely release of statistical data remains crucial for national development, evidence-based policymaking and informed decision-making across both public and private sectors.
