LuSE Pushes for Youth and Women Participation in Capital Markets
The Lusaka Securities Exchange (LuSE) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting financial awareness and inclusive participation in Zambia’s capital markets as the country commemorates Financial Literacy Week 2026, running from 16 to 22 March.
In a statement, LuSE Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Kabaso said the annual campaign provides a vital platform for fostering dialogue on money management, strengthening financial capability and encouraging informed financial decision-making across all segments of society.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the global observance of Global Money Week, reinforcing efforts to equip citizens with essential financial knowledge and skills.
Mr Kabaso highlighted that this year’s Financial Literacy Week holds added significance as it coincides with Women’s Month, a period dedicated to advancing gender equality and promoting the economic inclusion of women. He further pointed out that the campaign follows recent Youth Week engagements, during which LuSE partnered with universities and institutions to connect young people with capital markets education.
“Both women and youth represent key strategic demographics for the Exchange, and their meaningful participation in Zambia’s securities market remains a priority,” he said.
Mr Kabaso added that increasing retail investor participation, particularly among young people and women, has been identified as a key growth area for the Exchange. He emphasised that expanding access to the stock market, including onboarding new investors, remains central to LuSE’s mandate.
To achieve this, he said LuSE is working to lower barriers to entry, enhance financial literacy and create an enabling environment that allows more Zambians to participate in and benefit from the growth of the capital markets.
The Exchange continues to collaborate with key stakeholders, including the Securities and Exchange Commission Zambia and the Capital Markets Association of Zambia, to build a more informed, inclusive and engaged investor community.
Mr Kabaso stressed that financial education remains the foundation upon which confident, capable and empowered investors are built.
“As we observe Financial Literacy Week, I encourage all Zambians to embrace the spirit of this campaign and take steps towards greater financial awareness and financial security,” he said.
He added: “An informed investor is a protected investor.”
