Imisepela App Connects Zambian Youths to Jobs and Opportunities

The Government of Zambia has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young people through digital innovation following the launch of the Imisepela App, a platform designed to connect youths with employment and development opportunities.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Sport and Arts Zambia, Kangwa Chileshe, made the remarks during a meeting with developers of the application on Monday in Lusaka.

The meeting follows the recent launch of the digital platform by Hakainde Hichilema, who introduced the application as part of government efforts to improve access to opportunities for young people across the country.

Mr Chileshe said the Imisepela App represents an important step in ensuring that young people can easily access information on employment opportunities, entrepreneurship support, skills development programmes and other initiatives aimed at improving their livelihoods.

He noted that technology has become a key driver of development, adding that digital platforms are helping place opportunities directly into the hands of young people.

Mr Chileshe further observed that Zambia is a youthful nation whose energy, creativity and resilience remain a vital national asset, stressing that equipping young people with the right tools and information is critical for national development.

Meanwhile, National Coordinator at the Smart Zambia Institute, Percy Chinyama, said government was pleased to support a digital solution that responds to the needs of a large portion of the country’s population.

Mr Chinyama said initiatives such as the platform demonstrate government’s commitment to implementing long-term solutions that help young people build sustainable livelihoods.

He added that the application encourages a shift away from dependency by creating an environment that promotes growth, innovation and productivity among young people.

According to Mr Chinyama, the application has quickly gained popularity, becoming the number one app in Zambia on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, recording more than 128,000 downloads within days of its launch.

He added that additional features are expected to be introduced soon, including an employer dashboard, smart search functions, youth internship opportunities and improved approval processes.

Meanwhile, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security Zambia, Zacharia Luhanga, said the launch of the platform comes at a critical time when approximately 4.5 million people in the country are either employed or actively seeking employment.

Mr Luhanga revealed that the country’s Labour Market Information System will soon be integrated with the Imisepela App to improve access to employment data and opportunities.

He further announced that government plans to pilot an internship programme involving 1,000 interns across various ministries.

Mr Luhanga added that all interns participating in the programme will be required to obtain social security numbers in line with international labour standards supported by the International Labour Organization.
