Zambia to Receive 27 Containers of Medical Equipment in Expanded Project CURE Partnership
The Government of the Republic of Zambia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international partnerships aimed at improving healthcare service delivery nationwide.
Permanent Secretary for Administration at the Ministry of Health, Mrs Joma Tambatamba Simuyi, led a Zambian delegation on a strategic visit to the Project CURE warehouse in Philadelphia. The visit sought to assess available medical equipment and identify priority items for shipment to Zambia under the ongoing collaboration involving Project CURE and Islamic Relief.
During the tour, the delegation inspected a wide range of equipment, including examination and delivery beds, drip stands, oxygen concentrators and other essential hospital items available in significant quantities. Project CURE is expected to dispatch a total of 27 forty-foot containers of medical equipment to selected health facilities across Zambia by June 2026.
Mrs Simuyi commended the organisation’s strict quality assurance processes, noting that all equipment is thoroughly tested and certified, with certificates of analysis issued prior to packing and shipment to ensure safety, reliability and compliance with required standards.
She highlighted Zambia’s priority needs, particularly renal and oncology equipment such as dialysis machines and tools for cancer diagnosis and treatment. While acknowledging these gaps, she expressed satisfaction with the availability of other critical equipment that will significantly strengthen service delivery, especially in rural and underserved areas.
The Permanent Secretary praised Project CURE for its continued support in complementing Government efforts to improve healthcare delivery, reiterating the Ministry’s mission to provide equitable access to cost-effective, quality healthcare services as close to families as possible.
She further noted that under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema, the Government has increased budgetary allocations to the health sector for medicines, medical supplies and equipment, but added that partnerships remain vital in addressing persistent gaps, particularly in rural communities.
Zambia’s Health Attaché, Dr Priscila Mulenga, described the collaboration with Project CURE as a model of effective international cooperation in advancing health outcomes. The delegation is expected to proceed to Colorado to tour Project CURE’s headquarters and deepen engagements with the organisation.
The Ministry of Health reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging strategic partnerships to strengthen health infrastructure and improve access to quality healthcare services for all Zambians.
