Zambian Ambassador Drives Trade and Investment Talks in Angola’s Benguela Province
Zambia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Angola, His Excellency Rev. Dr Elias Munshya, has intensified economic diplomacy efforts during a working visit to Benguela Province, aimed at strengthening trade, investment and regional cooperation between the two countries.
The Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Angola said Ambassador Munshya paid a courtesy call on the Governo Provincial de Benguela, where he was received by the Vice-Governor for the Political, Social and Economic Sector, Ms Cátia Francisca Gertrudes Tchimbinga Cachuco.
The meeting formed part of the Ambassador’s engagements in Lobito, where he is holding discussions with key stakeholders along the Lobito Corridor. Talks at provincial level focused on cooperation linked to the corridor, as well as opportunities in agriculture, culture, social services and emerging economic sectors.
Ambassador Munshya highlighted existing agricultural trade between the two countries, noting that Benguela Province already imports seed from Zambia.
He also informed the Vice-Governor of Zambia’s current surplus maize, which is available for export to Angola, emphasising the need to translate policy dialogue into practical trade outcomes.
The Ambassador further briefed Benguela provincial authorities on the upcoming Invest Zambia International Conference (IZIC), scheduled for July 2026, and formally invited a delegation from the province to attend. The conference is expected to provide a platform for deepening trade, investment and institutional partnerships between Zambia and Angola.
He underscored that the Lobito Corridor should be viewed not only as a strategic economic project, but also as a cultural corridor that connects people, shared histories and regional aspirations.
The Vice-Governor welcomed the engagement and both parties agreed to maintain close communication as consultations with stakeholders in Lobito and Benguela continue.
Ambassador Munshya also praised Benguela Province for its warm hospitality and growing tourism appeal, citing visits to the CV Lodge and the iconic Cristo Rei statue.
