Zambia and Kenya Reaffirm Strong Bilateral and Regional Cooperation in Luanda

Zambia and Kenya have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing regional cooperation following a high-level diplomatic engagement in Luanda.

In a statement  issued by the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Luanda, Angola, the Embassy said that H.E. Rev. Dr Elias Munshya, Zambia’s Ambassador to the Republic of Angola, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Joyce Khasimwa M’maitsi, Kenya’s Ambassador to Angola, on 7 January 2026.

The meeting was held in a warm and collegial atmosphere, reflecting the close neighbourly relations between the two diplomatic missions, which are located adjacent to each other in Luanda.

Ambassador Munshya signed the Embassy of Kenya’s guest book, marking the introductory nature of the engagement as part of his ongoing courtesy calls following his assumption of duty.

During the discussions, Ambassador M’maitsi shared insights from her diplomatic tenure in Angola and extended her best wishes to Ambassador Munshya as he begins his tour of duty. The two envoys exchanged views on a wide range of issues of mutual interest.

The meeting also underscored the importance of the upcoming International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) meeting to be hosted by Zambia, as well as Zambia’s continued role in promoting unity, dialogue and regional cooperation within the Great Lakes Region and beyond.

Ambassador Munshya briefed his Kenyan counterpart on Zambia’s strong agricultural performance, noting that local farmers produced close to four million tonnes of maize in the recently concluded farming season, with significant surplus available for export.

The ambassadors further discussed the hospitality extended to diplomatic missions by the host nation, Angola, and highlighted the importance of open trade, regional interconnectivity and closer collaboration between their respective missions.

Ambassador Munshya also congratulated Ambassador M’maitsi on her efforts and on the successful hosting of Kenya’s Head of State during a recent official visit to Luanda.

Both sides expressed a shared commitment to deepening cooperation between the Zambian and Kenyan missions and to advancing common regional, diplomatic and economic priorities in 2026.
