Emirates Warns of Peak Travel Rush from 2–5 January
Emirates has warned customers to expect a busy period of travel between 2 and 5 January, as passenger volumes surge following the New Year holidays, and has issued a set of recommendations to help travellers enjoy a smoother airport experience.
The airline is encouraging customers to take advantage of its remote and flexible check-in options to avoid congestion at Dubai International Airport (DXB).
Passengers can check in and drop off luggage at the Emirates City Check In and Travel Store at ICD Brookfield Place in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), conveniently located in the heart of the business district. Customers can check in as early as 24 hours and up to four hours before departure, while also benefiting from free parking.
Those using the DIFC facility until 15 January will be rewarded with 2,500 Emirates Skywards Miles. The centre operates daily from 8am to midnight.
Travellers may also opt for Emirates City Check In Ajman, located at the Ajman Central Bus Terminal. The facility operates 24 hours a day, allowing passengers to check in and drop baggage between 24 hours and four hours before their flight.
For added convenience, Emirates is offering its Home Check-In service in Dubai and Sharjah, where trained agents complete the check-in process at a customer’s home, hotel or office and transport luggage directly to the airport. This service must be booked at least 24 hours before departure and is complimentary for First Class customers and Platinum Skywards members.
To avoid road congestion, Emirates is also advising passengers to consider public transport, particularly the Dubai Metro, which provides direct access to Terminal 3 at DXB via the Red Line. Trains operate frequently throughout the day and offer a reliable alternative during peak traffic periods.
Emirates further recommends that all passengers arrive at Dubai International Airport at least four hours before departure, especially during the busy travel window. Travellers are encouraged to complete online check-in via the Emirates app or website in advance, preselect their seats, ensure travel documents are valid, and reach the boarding gate at least one hour before departure.
The airline says early planning and use of alternative check-in services will help customers minimise delays and enjoy a smoother start to their journey during the peak travel period.
