Angolan Ambassador to Botswana Bids Farewell, Praises SADC Cooperation
Her Excellency Dr Beatriz Antónia Manuel Morais, the outgoing Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to Botswana and Permanent Representative to the Southern African Development Community (SADC), has praised the strong and fruitful cooperation between Angola and SADC, highlighting the steady growth of relations since the regional organisation’s inception.
Dr Morais made the remarks during a courtesy visit to SADC Executive Secretary His Excellency Mr Elias Mpedi Magosi at the SADC Secretariat, where she formally bid farewell following the conclusion of her tour of duty. She has served in Botswana since June 2018, representing Angola both to the host country and SADC.
During the meeting, Ambassador Dr Morais expressed gratitude for the support extended to her and the Government of Angola by the SADC Secretariat throughout her tenure.
She reaffirmed Angola’s strong commitment to SADC, noting the country’s role as a Founding Member State and its ongoing support for programmes and initiatives aimed at advancing regional integration, coordination and cooperation.
She also emphasised the importance Angola places on SADC as a key platform for promoting regional development, peace and economic integration, stressing that her Government remains committed to the effective implementation of the SADC agenda.
In response, Executive Secretary H.E. Magosi thanked Ambassador Dr Morais for her significant contributions to SADC and for strengthening relations between the Secretariat and Angola.
He acknowledged her pivotal role during Angola’s tenure as SADC chair, noting that her leadership and coordination through the Angolan Embassy in Botswana facilitated the smooth execution of regional processes and activities.
H.E. Magosi further expressed appreciation to President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço for appointing a distinguished diplomat whose service strengthened cooperation with SADC.
He reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to continue working closely with Angola to advance diplomatic relations, mutual cooperation and regional integration objectives.
The Executive Secretary concluded by wishing Ambassador Dr Morais success in her future endeavours, recognising her distinguished service and valuable contributions to regional cooperation.
