UNIDO and ZDA Release New Report on Zambia’s Business Conditions
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in collaboration with the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), has unveiled the Investment Monitoring and Support Services (IMSS) report, titled “Zambia’s Business Climate at a Glance.”
Speaking during the launch at Southern Sun Hotel in Lusaka, ZDA Director General Albert Halwampa described the publication as a major step towards strengthening Zambia’s investment ecosystem through data-driven insights, strategic foresight, and broad stakeholder engagement.
He noted that the report is not merely a document but “a strategic tool” offering a deeper understanding of Zambia’s foreign direct investment (FDI) landscape, investor aspirations, and persisting challenges.
He added that the findings will inform policy reforms and improve aftercare services to support investment growth.
EU Private Sector Delegation Team Leader to Zambia and COMESA, Lana Zutelija, remarked that the report’s release comes at an opportune time, following the recent EU–Zambia Lobito Corridor Business Forum, which highlighted strong European interest in opportunities along the corridor.
“This report is another valuable contribution to implementing the EU Global Gateway strategy and strengthening Europe–Africa economic linkages across key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, telecommunications, education, and health,” she said.
Representing the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Director of Industry Sichuzuwe Musokotwane commended the IMSS platform for providing a structured, data-driven mechanism to monitor investment performance, identify bottlenecks, and deliver timely support.
He stressed that the tool enhances transparency, accountability, and ease of doing business, ensuring that investments drive job creation, industrial growth, and increased exports.
The event was attended by senior officials, including Brian Portelli, Chief Technical Advisor for the UNIDO–Africa, Caribbean and Pacific Business Friendly Programme, ZDA directors, and other key stakeholders.
