Emirates Issues Advisory as December Travel Surges to Unprecedented Levels
Emirates has issued a travel advisory ahead of what is expected to be one of its busiest Decembers on record, with more than 2.3 million departures and 2.5 million arrivals forecast throughout the month. The increase is driven by peak tourist season, a packed events calendar, and recent KHDA school schedule changes that leave most of December free for families to travel.
With passenger numbers set to soar across upcoming weekends, the airline is urging customers to plan their journeys meticulously, anticipate heavier traffic en route to the airport, and prepare for busier terminals and car parks. Emirates has outlined several measures to help travellers minimise delays and enjoy a smoother airport experience.
Five Ways to Reduce Waiting Times at Dubai International Airport (DXB)
1. Stick to the recommended travel timelines
Emirates is encouraging customers to align their entire travel group on key timings to avoid confusion. Travellers should arrive three hours before departure, clear Immigration 1.5 hours before, and proceed to their boarding gate one hour before take-off. Passengers can then take advantage of DXB’s lounges, restaurants, shops, and relaxation areas.
2. Use the Emirates App and airport biometrics
Passengers are advised to download the Emirates App to check in online up to 48 hours before departure, access digital boarding passes, pre-select meals and entertainment, and book chauffeur services. Travellers can also register for biometric services through the app, allowing them to use smart gates, biometric boarding, and seamless lounge entry.
3. Check in early at Emirates City Check-In & Travel Store
Located in DIFC’s ICD Brookfield Place, the Emirates City Check-In facility allows travellers to check in and drop off luggage up to 24 hours before their flight. Between 15 December and 15 January, each customer who checks in at the venue will earn 2,500 Skywards Miles — including children. Opening hours will be extended to midnight during this period. A similar 24-hour check-in service is available at Ajman Central Bus Terminal.
4. Drop off luggage the night before or opt for Home Check-In
Passengers flying from Dubai may drop off their baggage at the airport the day before departure at no extra cost — 24 hours prior, or 12 hours prior for flights to the United States. Emirates also offers Home Check-In across Dubai and Sharjah, with agents completing all formalities at the customer’s residence or hotel. The service is complimentary for First Class and Platinum Skywards members.
5. Follow updated baggage regulations
Travellers are reminded to review restricted items before packing. Power banks under 100Wh are permitted only in cabin baggage and must be kept in the seat pocket or under-seat bag. Smart bags are allowed if the battery can be removed and carried in the cabin. E-cigarettes and similar devices must be hand-carried and protected from accidental activation.
Passengers can save time by pre-ordering duty-free items through EmiratesRED.com, with products delivered directly to their seat inflight. The Winter 2025 catalogue features over 300 premium items, and customers can enjoy a 10% discount using code RED10.
Emirates has also launched a new Accessible & Inclusive Travel Hub, designed to assist travellers with disabilities, families, unaccompanied minors, and those requiring medical or special support. The hub includes autism-friendly guides, mobility aid information, Dubai Airport maps, and links to the Be My Eyes support app.
Once inside DXB, passengers can navigate the airport with ease using a selection of transport services:
- Train: Complimentary services connect Concourse B to Concourse A in Terminal 3.
- Shuttle Buses: Regular services run between Concourses A and C every 20 minutes.
- Buggies: Emirates First Class customers may request dedicated buggies, while Dubai Airport buggies are available free of charge to all passengers, with priority given to elderly travellers, families, and People of Determination.
As December travel momentum builds, Emirates continues to emphasise early planning and the use of digital services to ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey for all passengers.
