Minister Sialubalo Investigates Misuse of Public Resources in Lufwanyama

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Gift Sialubalo, MP, has launched an investigation following reports of alleged misuse of council machinery in Lufwanyama District. The Minister, accompanied by Copperbelt Provincial Minister Hon. Elisha Matambo, MP, undertook a fact-finding mission to assess the situation.

The investigation follows claims that councillors walked out of a full council meeting, alleging that machinery meant for the 36.1-kilometre Fungwele Road project was redirected to grade approximately 2.7 kilometres of a private road. Councillors described the action as a potential abuse of office and a failure to prioritise public service delivery.

Speaking on the matter, Hon. Sialubalo emphasised that the government will not tolerate misuse of public resources. “Council machinery and funds must be used strictly for the benefit of the people. We expect the highest levels of integrity, transparency, and accountability from all local authority officials,” he said.

The Minister called on citizens to remain vigilant in protecting public assets and urged councillors, council management, and stakeholders to uphold good governance principles to foster public trust.

He assured that the Ministry will take disciplinary action against any officers found culpable and will release the findings once the review is complete.

Hon. Sialubalo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that initiatives such as the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) translate into tangible development outcomes for communities.
