President Hichilema Highlights Role of Businesses in Driving National Growth at South Expo 2025

President Hakainde Hichilema has highlighted the importance of businesses of all sizes in driving Zambia’s economic growth, reaffirming his government’s commitment to creating an inclusive and enabling environment for enterprise development.

Speaking during the official opening of the South Expo 2025 in Livingstone on Friday, the President said, “Micro, small, medium and large businesses form and grow the economy,” addressing more than 400 exhibitors gathered for the event.

President Hichilema announced a series of strategic projects for Southern Province, including the establishment of two new Multi-Facility Economic Zones in Monze and Mukuni, the opening of a manganese mine in Mapatizya, and the upgrading of Choma Airport.

“These initiatives are designed to open up economic opportunities for both local and international investors, while empowering communities and creating jobs,” he said.

He also appealed to traditional leaders to make land available for investment and urged local councils to expedite development approvals, emphasising that Southern Province remains Zambia’s third-largest economic contributor.

The South Expo 2025 showcases a wide range of sectors and highlights how enterprises of all scales — from small cooperatives to large corporations — contribute to the country’s economic transformation.

The Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development reaffirmed its dedication to fostering sustainable growth through the promotion of SMEs and cooperatives nationwide.
