Mutati Calls for Hands-On Skills Training as TEVETA Launches New Strategic Plan

Minister of Technology and Science, Felix Mutati, has emphasised the need for Competence-Based Education and Training (CBET) in Zambia’s skills sector, saying training must be practical and not confined to theory.

Speaking at the launch of the Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) Revised Strategic Plan 2025–2027, Mr Mutati urged the authority to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and ensure training institutions are adequately equipped to produce quality graduates capable of contributing to national development.

TEVETA Board Chairperson, Ngoza Nkwabilo, said the Revised Strategic Plan aligns with the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP) and the New Dawn Government’s priorities of job creation, youth empowerment and sustainable economic growth.

She noted that it replaces the 2021–2026 plan, which was anchored on the Seventh National Development Plan.

TEVETA Director General, Cleophas Takaiza, added that the new strategy draws guidance from key policies and frameworks, including the 2020 TEVET Policy, the Digital Transformation Strategy, the 8NDP, and Vision 2030.

Meanwhile, GIZ Thrive Manager, Anna Kristina Kanathigoda, expressed confidence that TEVETA would meet the plan’s objectives, particularly in advancing CBET to transform Zambia’s TEVET sector.
