Zambia Showcases Mining Potential at Africa Down Under 2025
Zambia took centre stage at this year’s Africa Down Under Conference, with the Zambia Country Showcase – themed “Zambia: The Gem of African Mining” – drawing a packed audience of global investors and industry stakeholders eager to learn more about the country’s vast mining and energy opportunities.
Setting the tone, Dr Hapenga Kabeta, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, delivered a keynote presentation highlighting Zambia’s immense mineral and energy potential. He extended a strong invitation to the international community to visit Zambia and invest in its rapidly evolving mining sector.
Leading the ZCCM Investments Holdings (ZCCM-IH) delegation, Board Chairperson Mr Phesto Musonda underlined the company’s extensive footprint in mining and energy.
He stressed ZCCM-IH’s proven competence, global partnerships, and commitment to unlocking Zambia’s mineral wealth sustainably. Mr Musonda also pointed to investment prospects in both greenfield and brownfield projects, particularly in copper, gold, and coal.
The event was officially opened by H.E. Dr Elias Munshya, Zambia’s High Commissioner to Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific, who welcomed delegates and described Zambia as a nation offering peace, visionary leadership, and a thriving economy – the essential ingredients for investment success.
Industry presentations followed, with Mr Mwelwa Manda, Country Manager at Prospect Resources, providing an update on the company’s exploration progress, while Mr Jeff Foster, Non-Executive Director at Beltz Mining Ltd, outlined milestones achieved in Beltz Mining’s development journey.
The showcase concluded with a lively panel discussion featuring Mr Kakenenwa Muyangwa, CEO of ZCCM-IH; Mr Sam Hosack, Managing Director of Prospect Resources; Dr Hapenga Kabeta; and Ms Nkandu Beltz, CEO of Beltz Mining Ltd. The panellists explored Zambia’s mineral landscape, the progress of nationwide aerial geological surveys, and the country’s positioning as an attractive destination for both established and new investors.
Delegates were also encouraged to participate in the forthcoming Mining Insaka, which was spotlighted as a premier networking platform for unlocking further opportunities in Zambia’s mining industry.
