Western Union, Zoona and Chipper Cash Launch International Money Transfers in Zambia
Western Union, Zoona Transactions Zambia Limited and Chipper Cash have officially launched international money transfer services through the Chipper Cash mobile app. This new service allows customers in Zambia to send and receive money globally with greater convenience and flexibility.
The partnership combines Western Union’s 175 years of experience in global money movement with Chipper Cash’s and Zoona’s local expertise and innovative mobile technology. Customers using the Chipper Cash app can now support their loved ones by sending and receiving money across Western Union’s global network of over 200 countries and territories.
The service also enables transfers to mobile wallets and cash pickups at hundreds of thousands of locations abroad. Transfers to bank accounts will be available soon.
Mohamed Touhami el Ouazzani, Western Union’s Regional Vice President for Africa, said Zambia’s growing population of mobile-first users is transforming the financial services landscape.
He explained that integrating Western Union services within the Chipper Cash app gives customers a reliable and easy way to move funds globally, helping to connect families and communities across borders.
The Chipper Cash app is available for download on Android and iOS devices. Users can initiate international transfers using funds stored in their Chipper Cash wallets, which can be topped up through various channels such as retailers, mobile operators, banks and ATMs.
Brett Magrath, CEO of Zoona and Chief Product Officer at Chipper Cash, highlighted Zambia’s transformation from cash-based transactions to a vibrant mobile and digital financial ecosystem.
He noted that this partnership reflects the growing demand for richer, app-based experiences in financial services and brings international money transfers within reach of more Zambians.
The collaboration builds on Western Union’s long-standing physical presence in Zambia. It also supports the shared mission of Western Union, Zoona and Chipper Cash to make financial services accessible to all consumers, regardless of whether they have a bank account.
