Proflight Zambia Boosts Capacity with Arrival of Sixth CRJ-200 Jet

Proflight Zambia has expanded its fleet with the arrival of a sixth 50-seater Bombardier CRJ-200 jet, leased from Alberta Aviation Capital Corporation. The aircraft, which landed in Lusaka on 23 June under the U.S. registration N8884E, is expected to join the Zambian registry as 9J‑PFF by the end of July.

The new jet will support Proflight’s mission to enhance connectivity and increase capacity across its domestic and regional routes, excluding Mansa and Lower Zambezi, by enabling higher flight frequencies and accommodating more passengers on high-demand services.

“The latest CRJ jet is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our existing network,” said Capt. Josias Walubita, Director of Flight Operations at Proflight Zambia. “By increasing frequency on well-performing routes, we’re better able to meet customer demand and improve connectivity.”

This addition brings Proflight’s fleet to eleven aircraft: five CRJ-200 jets, five Jetstream 41 turboprops, and one CRJ-100 freighter. The airline also received a Jetstream 41 turboprop in May 2025.

Captain Walubita noted that maintaining a consistent aircraft type helps streamline operations and improve in-house maintenance capabilities.

“Using similar aircraft enhances dispatch reliability and allows our engineering team to build deep technical expertise while mentoring newcomers,” he explained.

The CRJ-200’s speed (up to 860 km/h), comfort, and ability to operate in infrastructure-limited markets make it ideal for Proflight’s Southern African routes.

While there are no immediate plans for further fleet expansion, Proflight continues to explore strategic growth opportunities within its current network to sustain operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
