MultiChoice Zambia Celebrates 30 Years of Impact and Innovation
MultiChoice Zambia is proudly celebrating 30 years of delivering premium entertainment, technological innovation, and community support to Zambian households. Since its establishment in 1995, the country’s leading pay-TV operator has become a household name, bringing top-tier local and international content to audiences nationwide.
Founded through a public-private partnership between the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) and MultiChoice Africa Holdings, the company introduced satellite TV to Zambia with a vision to connect the nation to the world through quality video entertainment.
Speaking on the milestone, MultiChoice Zambia Board Chairperson Bishop Joseph Kazila reflected on the company’s journey. He said that MultiChoice has always positioned itself as a broadcaster for the people, making consistent investments in local content, technology, and economic empowerment.
“In just the past five years, the MultiChoice Group has contributed approximately $244.8 million to the Zambian economy,” said Bishop Kazila. “This includes investments in technology infrastructure such as transmitter sites following the launch of GOtv in 2011, as well as digital platforms like MyGOtv and MyDStv apps, and streaming services such as Showmax and DStv Stream.”
MultiChoice Zambia today boasts a fully Zambian workforce. The company supports a network of over 700 installers, 45 agents, 324 direct sales representatives, and 297 retailers across the country, promoting entrepreneurship and digital inclusion.
Significantly, MultiChoice’s investment in local storytelling has transformed the creative landscape. Since launching Zambezi Magic a decade ago, the company has supported more than 92 local productions, generating over 3,800 hours of Zambian content through popular shows like Zuba, Mpali, Pa Maliketi, Ma Kofi, Inkondo, and Ubuntu.
This commitment has created opportunities for directors, producers, writers, actors, and numerous professionals across the film and television value chain. In addition, MultiChoice has contributed to the development of Zambian sports by broadcasting local football through SuperSport, which has supported the Football Association of Zambia since 2012.
Another major initiative is the MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), which empowers young African filmmakers through world-class training in cinematography, editing, storytelling, and production. MTF alumni continue to excel on the international stage, and many have established careers in Zambia’s growing creative industries.
Bishop Kazila emphasized that MultiChoice Zambia is more than just a broadcaster. It is an engine of socio-economic development, playing a key role in digital advancement, youth empowerment, and national unity.
“MultiChoice has kept Zambians connected to evolving technology and global entertainment trends. Its installer and agent networks have advanced entrepreneurship and business growth across the country,” he said.
