Kenya’s Water Crisis Meets Tech Solution: New Partnership Targets 47% System Losses
Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a business of Cassava Technologies, has announced a strategic partnership with DropByDrop Water Systems to deliver smart water management solutions in Kenya. The collaboration aims to address non-revenue water (NRW) challenges and improve access to reliable, data-driven water services.
The partnership integrates Liquid’s existing Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure with DropByDrop’s advanced cloud-based water management platform. This combined system allows water utilities to monitor infrastructure in real time, detect leaks, and manage water distribution more efficiently.
The integration also includes SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) capabilities, geo-asset management, remote valve control, and multilingual functionality, making it accessible to a broader range of users.
Kenya faces significant water management challenges, with approximately 47% of distributed water lost due to leaks, theft, and inaccurate metering. This partnership directly targets those inefficiencies by enabling water providers to digitise operations, improve billing accuracy, and reduce waste.
“Water scarcity is a growing challenge across the continent, and managing this precious resource efficiently is more important than ever. Through our partnership with DropByDrop, we’re bringing Liquid’s advanced technology and data-driven solutions to Kenya’s water sector,” said Neeraj Pradhan, Acting CEO of Liquid Kenya. “By helping providers build smart water ecosystems, we’re empowering them to serve their communities better.”
DropByDrop’s platform supports remote monitoring and control, making it possible to react quickly to faults or anomalies in water systems. The platform is designed for easy integration with existing infrastructure and supports ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and urban development planning.
“Water is at the heart of life, yet millions still struggle to access it reliably. At DropByDrop, our mission is to harness the power of data and technology to make every drop count,” said Sergey Khorolsky, International Projects Partner at DropByDrop. “Leveraging Liquid’s extensive infrastructure enables us to scale our platform across Kenya, creating a future where water is managed sustainably, equitably, and intelligently.”
The initiative reflects Liquid’s broader commitment to supporting Africa’s digital transformation by providing technology solutions that solve real-world problems. It also positions both companies at the forefront of digital water infrastructure development in East Africa.
