Zambian Delegation Pays Courtesy Call on High Commissioner in Namibia
Zambia’s delegation to the ongoing Region 5 Youth Games has paid a courtesy call on Zambia’s High Commissioner to Namibia, His Excellency Mr. Stephen Katuka. The delegation was led by Director of Sport, Mr. John Chibwana Zulu.
During the engagement, Ambassador Katuka commended the athletes for their commendable performances across various disciplines, praising their dedication and the positive results achieved so far at the Games.
He also reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Zambia and Namibia, describing the relationship as warm and cordial.
However, the High Commissioner highlighted the existing trade imbalance between the two nations, noting that Namibia currently exports more to Zambia than it imports.
He expressed optimism that engagements through sports diplomacy could pave the way for stronger economic cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships.
Director of Sport Mr. Zulu thanked the Zambian Embassy in Namibia for its unwavering support since the team’s arrival, acknowledging the morale-boosting presence of the High Commissioner at several matches.
He emphasized the growing importance of sport as a vehicle for economic development, stating that the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts is actively promoting sport not only as a recreational activity but also as a sustainable industry.
Mr. Zulu echoed President Hakainde Hichilema’s commitment to inclusivity in sport, reiterating that “there is no minor sport in Zambia,” and that all disciplines—regardless of popularity—deserve equal investment and recognition.
He added that both boys and girls are being given equal opportunities to develop their talents and represent the country.
