FIFA Pledges Continued Support for Zambian Football

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has pledged continued support for Zambian football following high-level discussions with Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Keith Mweemba in Miami. The meeting reaffirmed FIFA’s long-term commitment to developing the sport in Zambia, from grassroots to elite levels.

Infantino, who visited Zambia in June 2024, praised the country’s deep-rooted passion for football. “Zambia has a great passion for football, which I saw during my visit there last year,” Infantino said. “Today’s meeting with FAZ President Keith Mweemba was an opportunity for me to reaffirm FIFA’s commitment to continue supporting football development.”

Key areas of discussion included maximizing investment through the FIFA Forward Programme, technical development, and infrastructure expansion. Infantino also applauded Zambia’s active participation in the Football for Schools initiative, which integrates football into educational and life-skills programs for children.

“I also thanked President Keith Mweemba for proactively interacting with the Football for Schools programme,” Infantino added. “We discussed how FIFA Forward funds can be used to strengthen football in beautiful Zambia.”

Infantino extended best wishes to the Chipolopolo as the national team continues its FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification campaign, signaling global confidence in Zambia’s football potential.

FAZ President Mweemba expressed appreciation for FIFA’s enduring partnership. “We are encouraged by President Infantino’s continued support for Zambian football. These engagements strengthen our resolve to build a solid and inclusive football foundation that serves every corner of our country,” he said.
