Zambia Seeks Game-Changing Sports Infrastructure Boost Through China Partnership

Zambia has taken a significant step toward revamping its sports infrastructure through a strategic engagement with Jiangsu Suti Industrial Development Co., Ltd., held earlier today at the state-of-the-art Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre in Jiangsu Province, China.

Led by the Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts, Honourable Elvis C. Nkandu, the Zambian delegation met with Mr. Zhang Qiuge, Chairman and General Manager of Jiangsu Suti, to explore a potential Public-Private Partnership (PPP) focused on modernizing and expanding Zambia’s sports facilities.

At the heart of the discussions were proposals to rehabilitate key national stadia—Levy Mwanawasa and National Heroes—as well as to construct multi-purpose sports venues that can serve diverse community needs.

The partnership aims to blend infrastructure development with knowledge and expertise transfer to ensure operational sustainability.

“We’re not just looking at building structures. We want sustainable models that include local capacity building, skills transfer, and long-term benefits for our communities,” said Hon. Nkandu.

The Ministry also expressed keen interest in partnering with sports equipment manufacturers, highlighting the broader goal of strengthening Zambia’s sporting ecosystem—from grassroots talent development to elite performance.

The high-level meeting marks a milestone in Zambia’s pursuit of international collaboration to drive economic growth through sport, job creation, and youth empowerment.
